Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts is hosting an “Applaud our Arts Teachers” reception prior to the Orono Arts Cafe this Friday, September 13, 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Keith Anderson Community House. All are welcome to come and thank Orono’s amazing music, drama, and art teachers and enjoy an exhibit of student artworks along with light refreshments.

Meeting dates have been changed to avoid conflict with Orono School Board Meetings (held first Tuesday of month in OHS library this year). Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts meetings are now being held the 2nd Thursday before the Orono Arts Cafe, at OHS, in Mr. Joseph’s room (across from library door). There are a couple of exceptions due to holiday and vacations days. The current meeting dates are Thursday October 3, Tuesday October 29, and Thursday December 5. Meeting dates can be found under the “About” tab and under “what’s happening today” on the website . People on the email mailing list or following our website/blog will get emailed reminders of meetings.
There was good response to the Orono Arts Cafe performers at the Orono Festival Day stage. Thanks to Eric Voelker for arranging this unique way to showcase our event.

This Friday is the August Orono Arts Cafe.
Please join us as we celebrate “Sunshine”! Some newcomers to the stage and familiar favorites will entertain at the open mic.
6:30 artists sign-in and 7 pm the evening of music begins.
$3 admission funds the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts Scholarships! We’re hoping to surpass the $1,000 from this previous year. Snacks for sale to include Rootbeer Floats, Shirley Temples, Popcorn, and ice cream sandwiches. Performers get a free float 🙂

Next Orono Arts Cafe is Friday, August 9th. Look for Orono Arts Cafe on Facebook 🙂 OHS alum Max B-D will spend his birthday evening with us, playing some tunes. August theme: Sunshine! Hear “Walking on Sunshine,” “My Girl,” and end the evening with sing-a-long of “You are My Sunshine”! Why not join in and sing “Sunshine on My Shoulders,” “Here comes the Sun,” or even “Everything is Coming Up Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows”? The cup song will be taught to those interested. Kettle corn and Shirley Temples make return visits to the concession stand. The Orono Arts Scholarships are funded fully by monies raised at the Orono Arts Cafe. Hope to see you there!

The summer Arts Cafe series begins this Friday at the Keith Anderson Community House. Performances begin at 7pm; artists may sign-up as early as 6:30. $3 admission supports the 2014 scholarship fund!
There will our root beer floats, nachos, and buffalo wings among other tasty treats at very reasonable prices (also to support the 2014 scholarship fund)!
